GOD'S ARMOR IS NOT OPTIONAL ATTIRE

"Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes." - Ephsians 6:11 (NIV)

Ephesians 6:11-18 uses the metaphor of Roman army gear to describe the spiritual characteristics that a Christian should take on in order to combat evil.  One weakness in the metaphor is that we tend to think of armor as something to be put on just for battle and then removed between skirmishes.  In reality, the believer is to remain in full battle gear at all times.

"Put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts." (Romans 13:14 NKJV)  When we put on the Lord Jesus, we do not take him off occasionally so that we can enjoy sin for a little while.  He comes to dwell within us permanently.  The armor of God is the Lord Jesus Christ who protects and strengthens us.  God's armor clothes us in truth, righteousness, peace, faith, salvation, and the word of the gospel.  These are not items that we may take off from time to time.

"For this is the will of God, your sanctification: . . . For God did not call us to uncleanness, but in holiness." (I Thess. 4:3,7 NKJV)  To put on the armor of God is to put on his sanctification, which is his will for our lives.  Do you wish to know the will of God?  Do you wish to do the will of God?  Then put on his armor, and keep it on.  Be prepared every day to battle against the wiles of the devil.

FEET

On the first Easter, Mary and some other women walked to the tomb. (Mark 16:1,2)

When they found the tomb empty, they ran to tell the other disciples. (Matt. 28:8)

Peter and John ran to the tomb. (John 20:3,4)

When Jesus revealed himself to the women, they held his feet and worshiped him. (Matt. 28:9)

Jesus appeared to two disciples as they walked to Emmaus. (Luke 24:13-15)

When it was time for Jesus to return to heaven, he told the disciples to go into all the world. (Matt. 28:19)

“How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!” (Romans 10:15)
